Your first Sunday, step by step

Coming to a new church can feel like a big step. Here's what to expect, so you can just walk in.

When should I arrive?

The service starts at 10:00 am and runs about an hour. There's a short prayer time at 9:30 if you'd like to join, and someone will be at the door to say hello.

What happens in the service?

We sing a mix of hymns and contemporary songs, pray, read the Bible and hear a sermon from it. Communion is on the first Sunday of the month.

What about my kids?

kids@church is for ages 2–12 and youth@church for 13–18. [Church to confirm how kids@church runs during the service]

What should I wear?

Come as you are. There's no dress code.

Where do I park?

[Parking details to be confirmed by the church] The free CAT buses stop a short walk away. See "Getting here" below.

What happens after?

Stay for morning tea. On some Sundays there's lunch and a Bible study group (Berean Central) at around noon.

Started in 2002 by Dr Richard Moore and named after Acts 17:11, where the Bereans "examined the Scriptures every day". Three groups use the same study notes, and some members join on Zoom.

"Language connects people." Our young adults have welcomed friends from more than 20 countries, including South Korea, Japan, Brazil, France and China.

  • Discovery Group, Wednesdays. Shared dinner at 6 pm, then a friendly English study at 7 pm: new words, a short reading, a little writing and good conversation. Free, no booking.
  • Saturday outings, most weeks. Bike rides around the river, Rottnest, the beach, canoeing and bush walks. Usually free, with morning tea. Meet at the church at 9:30 am.

About us

WA's first Baptist church, still in the city

We are a loving church family who travel into the city from many suburbs to worship together, and we're joined every Sunday by visitors on holiday or business.

  1. 1895

Foundation service in the Perth Town Hall on 23 June.

  2. 1899

A church building opens in Museum Street. It also hosts the WA Baptist Union for many years.

  3. 1973

After the land is resumed for the Perth Cultural Centre, the church moves to its present site on James & Stirling Streets.

  4. Today

A brass plate at the State Library entrance marks the first church. Its foundation stone sits beside ours.

What we believe

We are committed to the authority of the Bible and to explaining it faithfully, within the historic Christian faith.

We aim to worship God, provide fellowship, centre our lives in Christ, serve God with our gifts, and reach our community with the good news of Jesus.
